| Back to square one, last month I called our (former) reception venue to start on our menus and find out that the coordinator double booked us. We placed a deposit down back in Aug of 2006 - a bigger party came in and the coordinator kicked us to a smaller room. I was so upset - but in hindsight we both feel grateful that we canceled knowing what type of people were involved and we had 2nd thoughts later about the place/location. We did get the deposit back after a couple of phone calls.
A new search for a new venue is in process - we have it narrowed down to 2 hotels right now in Boston. It's going to be a traditional hotel reception now rather than Chinese Banquet that we originally planned.
So for all other Asian Brides in the Boston - please stay away from Jin's (Saugus) -- Coordinator name, Robin W. - she dared to accuse the situation on "Miscommunication" on my part. We only found out when I called in - so thank goodness we still have time to find something - even though it means everything will be rush rush rush. My anger towards her has subsided for her lack of professionalism in the situation.
Yes we are keeping the same date - his parents love the date and his grandmother said it's the luckiest day of the year so pushing date off was not an option in their eyes. Again down to 2 hotels right now - hope this to decide by the end of this weekend.
Hotel receptions are very expensive compared to what it would cost to do a Chinese Banquet in a Chinese restaurant but the hotel prices to cover more like cocktail hour, the wedding cake, some table decorations (voltive lights for the centerpieces).
Things to do: Decide on reception venue!!!! Invites - Can't do anything till we decide. Florist - we have one but need to inform of new location and get ideas DJ - inform of new location and get music together Photographer - i had doubts about the one we put a deposit down on - we are looking for a new one. Videographer - not sure if we are going to hire one - might ask a friend to just keep an eye on a camcorder Hair and Make-up - DIY (Lisa, still want to try your hands at doing my make up?) TUX (FI takes forever to get started on anything) Bridesmaid dresses - Sister is responsible for that Need Qipao dress (looking into a rental) Ceremony Program - I've started so not too worried on that
Done: Ceremony time and location is set - not changing that Officiant - confirmed date and time (need to set up 2 pre-marital meetings) Dress - At seamstress Shoes - done Save the dates - sent out - thank goodness we didn't put too much info on it
What else is there minus favors and a couple more little personal touches.
I'm not going to stress or panic (ok maybe a little inside but i'll try to not show it)....wish me luck!!!!!

| is starting to set in, the date is getting closer and closer and we have not done anything new since I bought the shoes...eck!!!
I decided I'm just going to start buying things - at least that will get some things done. Going to look at invitations and florist today. Must call venue for new menu, must call DJ to confirm, return call to make up artist, figure out what to do with my hair, make FI look for a suit/tux whatever he decided to do, pick out bridesmaid dress, get measurements for flower girl...hmm..what else!!!

| good idea or not?
I've looked online with a few online vendors > occanseydesigns.com, veilshop.com, ebay, weddingveil - the list goes on... but i'm really thinking that I might be able to do this myself!
At first - I wasn't going to have one but now since we are now getting married in a chapel, I want a veil - a cathedral length veil.
Any DIY sites recommended for directions?
Update: I'm going to give it a go - my sister worked at a bridal salon a few yrs back - she's going to help, says it's easy and her boss use to have her make them for the shop. Made a purchase of diamond white tulle the other day - 4.5 yards 108" across - total $8.50...there's more than enough to play with and if I screw up - oh well - i can use it for wrapping gifts or something!! I was playing with it the other night - I love it!!
Oh - here are the shoes i'm going with for the ceremony/white dress - zappos for ~ $72 | | |
| Photographer: met with a few companies this weekend - FI really likes BeaconHill/Cachet. > he really got along with the owner Jim - we met for a good 2 hours and I was invited to a X-mas party this coming Sunday to meet with a few of the other photographers that work for him. FI wants to hire Jim but he's a bit more expensive - we will have to figure the budget later.
Ceremony Site: Goddard Chapel > part of FI alma mater from grad/undergrad school (why didn't we think of that in the first place) - we are "pencilled in" - waiting for the list of ordained clergy peeps so we can contact and meet.
Dress: Found a seamstress that actually knew what she was talking about with the sideseams, reasonable price yea!!! est. ~ $450 max - I think prob around $250 to take it in and pressing it. Dec 19th - first fitting
DJ: contacted - need to agree on contract & deposit and finalize!!
Save the Dates: able to get those out to our friends - working on the family side - hope to get out soon!
I think that's about it so far...I've come along way!!
To do's (for now) SHOES - need that before first fitting. I'm a fan of red shoes as well - any recommendations in the $100 range? Veils, hair jewelery, bridesmaid dresses, hair/makeup ideas (do it myself or hire someone), flowers (DIY or hire someone), wedding favors (giving out chocolate) other random stuff that can be thought of later!
